Äijälä Garden Village

The Äijälä Garden Village is a sustainable communal housing project designed to be built in Jyväskylä.

The site has been farmed in various ways since 16th century. The area acted as a commercial garden from the fourties to eighties and has held its form and function ever since.

The design of the Garden Village includes 22 carefully fitted houses fitted on five sites owned by two different clients. The design of the area supports communal and sustainable lifestyles. The houses of the Garden Village are to be built with carbon neutral techniques using wood and/or clay. The communal garden and personal greenhouses create food self-sufficiency for the area. The energy independent village creates its own energy using solar panels and wind turbines.

Steep pitched roofs are used to optimize the use of the garden.

The houses can be equipped with integrated greenhouses.
